Set Up WiFi Mesh

Need help setting up fast and reliable WiFi at Home?

A mesh WiFi network can eliminate dead spots, extend range, and improve overall performance when using the internet.

In this page, we will show you how to buy and install a mesh WiFi to improve the reliability of your wireless network.

What to Buy?

We recommend Google WiFi.

Google WiFi comes in a pack of 3 or 4 stations.

We find the 3 pack offers sufficient coverage for large two story houses with 5 bedrooms, dining room, living room, Florida room, home office, and pool. Oh yeah, 3 stations covers a huge area.

Occasionally, we use a fourth station. But this happens during specific circumstances, like having a pool house or guest house far from the main house, or a room that has a wall covered by mirrors causing signals to reflect.

We have not found the need for more than 4 stations.

How to setup?

Setup is a breeze.

It takes a few minutes per station.

You start by connecting any of the stations to the modem provided by you internet service provider.

Then you install the Google WiFi app in your phone and follow the instructions. You’ll setup some basic information like:

  • Create a Google account
  • Setup the name of your WiFi
  • Setup a WiFi password
  • Tell it how many stations you are setting up

Pro Tip!

We recommend disabling any other WiFi routers and repeaters. Only connect your devices to Google WiFi.

Discontinue the usage of any repeaters you may already have.

Remove the old WiFi from computers and smartphones.

Switching devices to the new WiFi

Make a list of all devices connected to the WiFi.

We recommend grouping them in the following categories to speed up the process:

  • Computers
  • Smartphones
  • Tablets
  • Printers/Scanners
  • TVs and TV Dongles (i.e Chromecast, Roku, Fire Stick)
  • Cameras
  • Lawn and Weather gadgets

Last Check

Open the Google WiFi app and perform a network diagnostic. This will confirm your network is healthy even after adding all the devices in your house to the new WiFi.

Then take a look at the Device List and make sure you did not forget any device.

Enjoy fast and reliable WiFi

Now everyone in your home can binge watch at the same time. Oh my, what have you done 😉

Need help?

In our experience, most people encounter problems setting up a new WiFi when it comes to disabling their modem’s WiFi and when adding special gadgets (surveillance cameras, printers, lawn, etc).

Some devices may need you to go into Google WiFi’s advanced settings, which may be too technical for the average user.
