How to protect your password when you need your PC repaired

So you need to send your computer to the shop for repair? Should you give the computer tech your password?

This may pose a security threat if you use the same password everywhere, and let's face it, many people do.

So what can you do?

Here are three tips:

  1. Use a Windows password you know you can give the Tech,
  2. Remove the Windows password temporarily,
  3. Setup a second administrator account in Windows with a password you can give your Tech

This way, if you run into an issue with your PC and cannot get into Windows, you can provide the technician with administrator access without compromising your security.
